Finding a job to pay for college tuition and fees

November 21, 2011

It's not easy balancing a job and college, but it's sometimes necessary for those who don't have the financial means to pay for tuition. Working while in school is common for most students, even though it can quickly become overwhelming. There are a few ways that you can balance a job and college without burning out.

First, pick a job that can provide you with flexible hours. For instance, it's in your best interest to choose a part-time position that has evening hours readily available to you. This way, you can attend classes in the morning and then head to work afterward. Some positions that may offer this to you are retail sales jobs or waitressing gigs.

When you find a potential job, it's important to make it clear to your employer that you can only work a certain number of hours per week. If you can, specify which days you are willing to work as well. This will help you with scheduling in the future.

Finally, consider applying for scholarships and college grants if working part-time is not a viable alternative for you. This money can help you curb the cost of tuition and fees.
