Some colleges ask unusual admissions questions

Debate over need-based and merit-based scholarships

In Georgia, need-based scholarships for college have been done away with, in order to dedicate more financial aid for school to merit-based scholarship programs. While this policy has been in place for 20 years, according to the Wall Street Journal, some experts aren't convinced this strategy is fair to students from low-income communities.

Scholarship bucks generated in Texas

Recently more than 250 golfers competed in a celebrity golf tournament that scrounged up $140,000 that will be set aside from financial aid for college at Lone Star College. 
According to YourHoustonNews, the event took place at the Woodlands Country Club Palmer and Tournament Courses.
"The Lone Star College Foundation Golf Tournament is about building community, connecting with our donors, and supporting students," Darcy Mingoia, executive director the LSC Foundation, told the news source.…

Organization offers scholarships for San Diego students

The San Diego Foundation - the biggest resource of financial aid for college in the county - is providing scholarships for college to graduating high school seniors, students already in college and grad students. There are also scholarships for those studying vocational trades and former students looking to restart their education.

Legacy scholarships provided by Elks Foundation

A report from the Fort Morgan Times states that 250 Legacy scholarships from the Elks Foundation are slated to be given to 250 high school seniors. Applications are due Feb. 1 at 11 a.m., and includes $4,000 designated for grants for education for descendants of living Elks who joined the organization before April of 2010.
