Phoenix student receives inaugural “Shane Figueroa” Memorial Scholarship

On May 14th, Elija Jenkins - a senior at South Mountain High School in Phoenix, Arizona - received the first Shane Figueroa Memorial Scholarship, honoring the late police officer who was killed in the line of duty in 2008.

Gates Scholarship rounds up 14 Dekalb County students

Bill and Melinda Gates, no strangers to philanthropy, annually award scholarships to 1,000 American students through the Gates Millenium Scholarship Program. The scholarships are good throughout four years at the school of that student's choice. It's a pretty amazing deal, as Thuy Hang Tran - a high school graduate from Dekalb County, Georgia - knows.

Jetta Operating president endows petroleum engineering scholarship

The president of the Jetta Operating Company has endowed a scholarship of $120,000 to Texas A&M, funded through the Texas A&M Foundation in the Von Gonten Scholars Program, which helps support and provide financial aid for college engineering students.
President Gregory A. Bird, who graduated A&M in 1982 and is also the owner of Jetta Operating, commented that with graduates in such high demand the petroleum industry needs more educated and advanced workers.…
