Ivy League schools letting in fewer students

The New York Times, in it's annual assessment of college enrollment statistics, noted that Ivy League schools were more particular when it came to admitting students in 2012. Many schools - including Harvard and Yale - told reporters that their acceptance rate was less than 10 percent.
The news source's numbers show almost 35,000 applications - 3,800 of which were the top students in their class - were sent to Harvard University in 2012.…

Most people might not assume that skills involving hog tying pigs and remaining planted in a saddle as an incensed horse tries to toss you could lead to financial aid for college. However, reports from The Miami News Record and a West Texas CBS affiliate confirm that this is, in fact, the case.

Golf clubs swung for scholarships in California

A helicopter flying over Mariners Christian School athletic field in Costa Mesa, Calif., bombarded the area with golf balls on the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 15. Almost $7,000 awarded to accounting scholar

According to the Rapid City Journal, a South Dakota number crunching wiz has received a significant amount of money for college due to her passion for accounting.
The South Dakota Certified Public Accountants Society (CPA) awarded Black Hills State University senior Elise Foltz $6,800 in financial aid for school. In part, this was due to the fact that she's almost done with the 150 hours of of accounting necessary to qualify for the CPA exam, according to the news source.…

For example, a group that was once a source of merit badges, camping trips and delicious cookies could be a source of money for college.
