Welborn scholarship to help high school students from Union County
January 17, 2012
It's not uncommon for high school students to have their dreams of attending college cut short due to a lack of funding. However, the cost of tuition is often too much for individuals who come from families that are struggling financially.
Union County, Indiana, is one region that is attempting to make sure that high school students don't have to tuck their dreams away when the going gets tough. Recently, a new scholarship was developed in memory of former school board member, Johnny Welborn, according to the Palladium-Item. School board member Michael Murray helped develop the scholarship after his passing.
"This scholarship will be for a senior who worked hard to become a stronger math student over the four years in high school and is pursuing higher education," Michael Murray told the news source. "It won't necessarily be for the student who was the best math student."
College grants and scholarships have long been a way for students to financially support themselves while in school. These resources are more viable than education loans because they do not have to be repaid over time.
