Using Twitter to find great scholarships
August 2, 2012
Since its debut, Twitter has quickly become a reigning king of social media. It's simple, haiku-like 140-character parameters means that it stands out from the crowd - fast, efficient and useful. Sounds like a great tool for scholarship seekers, and If you're looking for scholarship opportunities, you're sure to find a few in the Twitterverse.
U.S. News and World Report recently published a story by Scholarship America outlining the top ten Twitter handles for those social network-savvy individuals looking for a little financial assistance for college. Each name is preceded by the iconic @ sign that's come to denote Twitter's usernames. Highlights on the list include @FAFSA, which runs government financial aid, @CollegeBoard, the SAT-publisher that also offers fantastic college guidance, and @CollegeWeekLive, run by the folks who assemble the giant college fair that, according to their website, "revolutionizes college admissions."
With the average high school student being more than savvy enough to navigate social media like Twitter, there's no reason not to take advantage of these great scholarship opportunities. And then, of course, there's always Twitter's own scholarship itself, cleverly called the 140 Scholarship, and offering $1,400 to the winner.
