December 18, 2012
Prospective students hoping to someday pilot a commercial airliner or another craft across the sky may want to look into these college scholarship opportunities pointed out by U.S. News and Report.
The news source directs readers to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, which doles out almost 30 $10,000 scholarships for college every year. Qualifying students should be at least in their sophomore year, and be aiming for careers in science, technology engineering or math. An impressive grade point average and a nomination from a faculty member are also required.
Meanwhile, U.S. News and Report also states that the International Organization of Women Pilots and the Ninety-Nines have pooled their resources to fund the Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships and Awards. In addition to $5,000 in financial aid for college, the Earthart scholarship will compensate students for training in flight, technical aspects of flying and emergency maneuvers. Membership in the Ninety-Nines is necessary to apply.
At least one other aviation scholarship was founded within the past few months. The Sunshine Coast Daily reports that owner of Aeromil Pacific has established a scholarship program called Flight Options, which is designed to train new pilots to fly jets within 15 months.
