Organization points to scholarship options for single moms
October 9, 2012
Noting that more women than ever are applying for scholarships to further their academic ambitions, Scholarship America compiled a list of institutions that offer scholarships for single moms, which was published by USA Today.
The article highlighted the Jeanette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund, which requires applicants to be over the age of 35, accepted to an accredited college, of a low-income background and interested in technical or vocational schooling. Meanwhile, the Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation awards financial aid for college to qualifying women with children under 18 years old, and the Single Parent Scholarship offers scholarships for mothers based in California.
These days, it could be especially important that single moms with academic ambition find college grants for single mothers. According to new findings from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, almost 20 percent of single moms in the U.S. have declined to open a bank account, partially due to being unable to afford the fees.
