Community college scholarship created in memory of nursing degree graduate

The benefits of earning a college education can be substantial, but not everyone has the income they need to cover the cost of tuition. Now, more college scholarships opportunities are being offered to those who want to obtain the degrees they need to pursue a desirable career.
One scholarship that's now helping more people curb college expenses while enrolled at Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is the Sandra Moore Estes Memorial Scholarship. This award was recently created in memory of Sandra Moore Estes, a single mother who worked two jobs while enrolled at the school to earn accreditation in nursing.
Estes passed away last October, but taught at the community college after graduating and helped other students pursue their passions for nursing.
"Students came first and in fact, the well-being of others came first," said Joe Gravely, an associate professor of nursing at PHCC.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that individuals with a bachelor's degree took home approximately $1,053 weekly. Those with only some college education made $719 a week. College scholarships can help reduce the cost of tuition and give people more opportunities to obtain a degree.
