Comcast scholarship gives $111,000 to more than 100 Massachusetts students
June 21, 2012
On June 19, Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murphy and Senior Vice President of Comcast's Greater Boston Region Steve Hackley awarded 102 students with more than $111,000 in scholarship funds at the state house. The Comcast Leaders and Achievers scholarship awards students with one-time $1,000 scholarships to the school of their choice. This year's batch of winners were commended for their dedication to their community as well as academics.
The scholarship is given out by The Comcast Foundation, a branch of the nationwide cable operator founded in 1999 with the goal of assisting non-profits and students in need of financial aid. In the past 13 years, the foundation has gifted $108 million to deserving communities - Including $17 million to Leaders and Achievers scholarships.
Most recently, the program recognized the excellence of students in states outside Massachusetts. One hundred Michigan high school seniors were gifted with scholarships, as well as 180 in California, where a total of $200,000 was awarded.
With large national companies like Comcast awarding so many college scholarship opportunities each year, more and more students are able to attend college without being burdened by debt. Seeking out scholarships and financial aid is helping high school seniors and adults alike continue their educations.
