Illinois library to offer scholarship to volunteers and employees

Many people look to colleges and private businesses for grants and scholarships that can help them reduce the cost of tuition. However, some of the best resources for individuals looking to financially support themselves through college are located right in their own communities.

Recently, the Vernon Area Public Library announced that it will be accepting applications for a $2,000 scholarship, titled the Allen Meyer Memorial Scholarship, according to TribLocal.com. Sponsors of the prize are asking applicants to describe how the library has affected and benefited their lives. In order to qualify for the money, individuals must have either worked or volunteered at the Vernon Area Public Library.

"The scholarship is offered by the Friends of the Vernon Area Library in honor of former library director Allen Meyer, who passed away in 2008," representatives from the venue reported to the news source. "During his tenure, Allen provided strong leadership that allowed the library to meet the ever-changing informational and technological needs of district residents."

College grants and scholarships are an efficient way to fund a higher education. They do not need to be paid back over time and can reduce tuition and fees.
