2012 Wegman’s scholarship numbers greater than ever
June 11, 2012
Since 1916, Wegman's Food Markets, Inc. has been building its family-owned chain of stores. They now have 80 locations down the East Coast from New York to Virginia, and have been pioneering The Wegman's Employee Scholarship Program since 1984. Over the years, more than 26,500 employees have received a total of $85 million in scholarship funding. This year - the program's 29th - sees 1,686 employees receiving $5.05 million for the coming academic year, the largest number of scholarships ever annually awarded.
While part-time Wegman's employees are eligible for up to $1,500 a year over four years at an institution (and in the area of study) of their choice, full-time employees have the opportunity to receive as much as $2,200 a year for four years. Applicants must meet performance requisites at work and then a team evaluation.
Wegman is a leader in scholarship opportunities for employees, but many other corporations offer scholarship programs to those who seek them out. According to the Wegman Philosophy, "We believe we can achieve our goals only if we fulfill the needs of our people."
