Choosing the right college is a huge decision in anyone's life, so if you're mulling over the your choices, there are a number of methods to help narrow down your list. While visiting the campus, talking with students and looking into the academic programs are great starting points, there are some other avenues that can help inform you.

College directories are put out yearly by many reputable organizations, and they can be a viable means of comparing the merits of schools that are high on your list. Ideally, these are the resources you use early on in the process to get a good idea of where in the country you'd like to live for the next four years.

Yearly rankings are also another means of helping to separate your options into top choices, safety and reach schools. These lists can be added incentive to send off an early decision application or to find out just how competitive the admissions process is.

Finding the right college will be one of the most important decisions in your life, so leave no stone unturned as you learn everything you can about your potential institution.
