Returning to college after a short break

December 27, 2011

It's not uncommon for individuals to have to postpone their college careers due to unexpected circumstances. Some people can't afford to finish four years of schooling, while others might want to delay graduation in order to pursue other dreams.

If you're thinking about going back to school after a short break, you'll need to ask yourself how you're going to finance your college career. Although education loans are one option, you may not want to borrow more money if you're already in debt.

One option is to apply for college grants and scholarships. This money does not have to be repaid over time and can help you afford everything from course credits to textbooks.

After applying for scholarships, see if you can work a part-time job into your schedule. Working on your free time can help you accumulate savings to curb the cost of tuition.

If you don't have the money to jump back into schooling, consider working full-time until you can save up enough money to return to college without financial stress. In the end, you'll be happy you planned accordingly.
