Choosing a college that meets your personal and financial needs
November 16, 2011
Once it comes time to start looking for colleges, you may get excited at the prospect of your high school career coming to an end. However, there is more to earning a degree than attending a postsecondary institution. In order to find the school for you, there are a number of factors you need to consider to make sure you're making right choice.
First, it's important to narrow down your options by focusing on the colleges that offer your major. If you don't know what you want to earn a degree in, at least look for a school that has various programs that pertain to your interests. For instance, if you know you're interested in media studies, research colleges that have reputable communication programs.
Next, you'll want to consider the size of schools that interest you. Some students benefit from the individual attention available at smaller colleges, while others feel more comfortable on large campuses. Find out what suits you best before making a final decision.
Finally, consider the amount of financial aid you can receive from these postsecondary institutions. In combination with college grants and scholarships, financial aid should be able to substantially help you avoid large amounts of debt by the time you graduate.
