Scout organizations provide scholarship opportunities
November 15, 2012
While many community organizations offer money for college, those interested in being awarded financial aid for school may want to consider looking into some of the old standbys.
For example, a group that was once a source of merit badges, camping trips and delicious cookies could be a source of money for college.
A report from the Thousand Oaks Acorn showed that the National Eagle Scout Association provides some qualifying students with financial aid for college. The news provider said that a pair of eagle scouts - Aaron Zuckerman and Jacob Kohlhepp - have been award $3,000 scholarships from the organization, which received more than 2,500 scholarship applications from former scouts who had risen to the Boy Scouts's highest rank. Almost 150 of those were given a sum total of more than $445,000, according to the news source.
Some scholarships also are offered specifically to veterans of the Girl Scouts. The organization encourages former members of their ranks to check their website for opportunities for financial aid for school.
