Students interested in manufacturing careers could receive scholarships
November 12, 2012
In light of the importance of the tool, die and manufacturing industries to the economy of Pennsylvania, a pair of organizations are providing financial aid for school to students with technical backgrounds looking to enter these fields.
The Kenneth and Margaret Deane Scholarship, a joint venture between NuTec Tooling Systems, Inc., and the Crawford Heritage Community Foundation is offering $500 grants for education for students focusing their studies on mechanical, electrical, technical or precision engineering or robotics. Students from the Pennsylvania area can be working toward degrees or certificates.
“[The NTMA Education Foundation] has the expertise to review applications and select the best students to receive this award," Christian Maher, executive director of the Crawford Heritage Community Foundation, told the Meadville Tribune. "We’re designed to manage the permanent endowment that will provide the money for the scholarship, each and every year, forever."
According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, mechanical workers were bringing in an average of about $26 per hour as of October, 2012.
