Choosing the right person to write a letter of recommendation
October 12, 2011
As a high school student, one of the most important parts of the college application process is finding someone to write you a letter of recommendation. You shouldn't look for someone with name recognition or with an elegant writing style, rather, it should be a person who can speak to your talents and give an admissions office a view into your scholarly accomplishments.
Oftentimes, choosing one of your favorite teachers is a great head start to finding a recommendation. You probably have developed a relationship with this person over the years, and he or she will have a unique insight into what your strengths are and how they will translate to higher education.
Secure this letter as soon as possible. Chances are, your teachers are writing letters for a number of other students, and they're taking time out of their busy schedules to do a favor for you.
Researching college scholarships and grants is another important facet of the admissions process, so be sure to set aside enough time to find these sources of funding during your search for the ideal university.
