Go through your college essay with a fine-toothed comb and make sure that more than two pairs of eyes gets a glance at it. Even the most uplifting essay will be sold short by a bevy of typos and grammatical errors, so be sure to have it professionally edited before you send it off.
One of the shortcomings of many college essays is a student straying away from the prompt. Use this topic as a thesis statement for your piece, and constantly go back and refer to this point to allow your essay to flow naturally.
