Getting organized and taking care of financial responsibilities

December 16, 2011

Disorganization is one thing that can hinder your college career, and it can even make it difficult on your financial situation while you're in school. If you fail to pay tuition bills on time, you may find yourself unable to attend class.

There are a few ways that you can get organized and make sure that you're on top of both your finances and your academics while you're in school. First, start using a date book to jot down important events, such as days when you need to pay bills. If you prefer to use tech gadgets, set reminders for yourself on your mobile device or computer.

Next, try to get into the habit of taking care of your responsibilities early rather than on-time (or worse, late). This means paying a bill as soon as possible instead of waiting until the last possible day to do it.

Finally, be honest with yourself about why you're facing financial stress. If it is because you are low on cash, consider applying for college grants and scholarships to improve your fiscal responsibility.
