NASCAR driver and athletic clothes company dispense scholarships

In addition to new uniforms and other athletic accessories for the school's wrestling team, a total of $11,000 worth of grants for education were provided to students in Bakersfield, California, in a joint effort between NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick and the clothing company TapouT, according to the Warner Robins Patriot.
The North High School students who were awarded the financial aid for college did so by winning an essay contest based on overcoming adversity in everyday life.…

Top schools may not be as expensive as they appear

While the superficial price of the average college tuition continues to increase, some major universities are providing financial aid for school to a surprising majority of students, according to a recent report by U.S. News. For example, the news source pointed to Harvard University, which offered a 75 percent discount to two-thirds of its new students in 2011.
The article stated that 60 percent of the Harvard student community getting need-based financial aid for college paid just under $15,000 during one academic year, including tuition, fees, room and board, even though Harvard's official price tag is much closer to $40,000 a year.…

Johnny Depp provides $25,000 scholarship for Native Americans

According to an article appearing in the Daily Times, a newspaper out of Farmington, New Mexico, actor Johnny Depp signed a $25,000 check that will go toward financial aid for college to young members of the Navajo Nation.
Specifically, this money for college was donated to the Navajo Nation Scholarship and Financial Assistance fund, which the news source said doled out $14 million in financial aid for school to its aspiring student members last year to 5,000 students.…
