Looking into the SMART grant for financial assistance

Although the Pell Grant is one of the most popular college grants out there when it comes to finding financial aid prior to attending a postsecondary institution, there are other options once you begin your schooling, too.

Oftentimes, students are caught off-guard by the amount of money they need to spend on tuition and fees. It's not uncommon for individuals to have to postpone their schooling in order to save up enough cash to finish earning their degrees. However, there are a number of different college grants and scholarships that you can apply for while you're in school to curb the cost of tuition.

One of these is the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent grant, also known as the SMART grant. The U.S. Department of Education provides this grant to individuals who are entering their third or fourth year of schooling and majoring in mathematics, technology, engineering, a critical foreign language physical, life or computer sciences.

In order to be eligible, students must also qualify for the Pell Grant and be enrolled as at least a part-time student. The SMART grant can provide you with up to $4,000 for both your third and fourth years of undergraduate schooling.
