December 10, 2012
Actor and director of classic silver screen dramas like Quiz Show, A River Runs Through It and The Horse Whisperer, Robert Redford has joined forces with the Santa Fe University of Art and Design to provide college scholarship opportunities to promising creative students.
According to The Santa Fe Reporter, Redford will personally select which students he feels deserve one of these scholarships for college in pursuit of creative excellence.
Student filmmakers and artists applying to the Robert Redford/Milagro Initiative Scholarship Program have a pair of options, according to the Associated Press (AP). One is shooting for the Unique Voice scholarship, designed to finance tuition, room and board, while the other is the slightly less lucrative Emerging Artist scholarship. The latter provides $15,000 a year in money for college for film students, and $7,000 for those working towards degrees in creative writing, digital arts and other fields.
The Santa Fe Reporter states that the Unique Voice scholarship is aimed towards students who represent the voices of indigenous people anywhere in the world. The only requirement for the Emerging Artist scholarship is enrollment at the university.
