Curbing the cost of decorating your college dorm
November 15, 2011
Part of going to college is having the opportunity to live away from your parents for the first time. However, it can be more difficult than you think to make it on your own while you're in school, especially if you're strapped for cash.
In some instances, your college may not have enough on-campus housing to meet the number of students. However, CollegeBoard.com says there are a number of advantages that come with living in an off-campus apartment. Without the rules of a dorm, you'll have more freedom to come and go as you please. That being said, you'll need to start thinking about your financial situation in order to live in an apartment.
Even if you have roommates to help you curb the cost of rent, you might want to apply for college grants or scholarships. This extra money can help you pay for living expenses and give you more of an opportunity to concentrate on your studies.
You may also want to get a part-time job in order to maintain your finances while you're in school. Look for work study jobs on campus or odd jobs in the local community to relieve the stress of being strapped for cash.
